Our boy Blue #82
Like the team at Vulpro, we believe that every individual contributes toward saving wild vulture populations.
We adopted a Cape Vulture (Gyps coprotheres), #YB82, “Blue”, from Vulpro for educational purposes. Although he doesn’t live at our centre, we sponsor his feeding.
He was sadly a statistic in a poisoning incident in 2013. He was rehabilitated at the Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, but could not be released having spent so long in captivity and because his eyesight was poor. He was then housed at the MonteCasino Bird Gardens. When he started displaying mating behaviour he was sent to Vulpro to breed. Blue now forms a valuable part of Vulpro’s Cape Vulture captive breeding programme. He is #YB90’s partner and together are parents of nest #7. They have successfully produced offspring which have been released adding to the wild vulture populations
